Course Requirements

  • Laptop (Windows/macOS) and reliable internet.

  • Google/Microsoft 365 (Docs/Slides/Sheets or Word/PowerPoint/Excel).

  • Basic finance familiarity (revenue, costs, cash flow); no advanced accounting required.

  • Bring a current or proposed venture to use in exercises (SME, startup, or nonprofit).

  • Recommended tools: carbon accounting template (Scopes 1–3), simple LCA/calculator, Notion/Trello/Asana for action plans.

Course Description

Sustainability in entrepreneurship means integrating environmental and social responsibility into core business strategy—not as an add-on, but as a competitive advantage. This hands-on program shows founders and leaders how to design circular, low-carbon, people-centric ventures; measure impact; align with standards; de-risk operations; and model long-term financial value. You’ll turn your idea (or existing business) into a sustainability-ready venture with clear KPIs, a carbon reduction plan, and investor-grade documentation.

Course Outcomes

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Design a sustainable value proposition using the Sustainable Business Model Canvas and circular economy loops (reduce, reuse, refurbish, recycle).

  • Run a materiality assessment to identify priority ESG issues for your sector and stakeholders.

  • Baseline your footprint with a simple Scopes 1–3 estimate and create a practical reduction roadmap (energy, transport, waste, supply chain).

  • Build an impact thesis & KPIs (logic model / theory of change) and set targets tied to SDGs.

  • Model the economics of sustainability initiatives (NPV, payback, IRR) and integrate carbon/ESG scenarios in your financial plan.

  • Map ESG risks & governance (policies, code of conduct, supplier standards, whistleblowing, H&S).

  • Plan responsible supply chains (supplier screening, traceability, fair labor, local sourcing).

  • Prepare investor-grade reporting aligned to widely used frameworks (GRI/ISSB, basics of TCFD).

  • Explore funding options: grants, impact investors, blended finance, incentives, and carbon/REC opportunities (where applicable).

  • Communicate credibly (avoid greenwashing): claims, disclosures, labels, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Deliverables: Sustainable Business Model Canvas, Materiality Matrix, Carbon & Waste Reduction Plan, ESG Policy Pack, Impact KPI Dashboard, and a 12-month Sustainability Action Plan.
