Course Requirements

    • A laptop (Windows/macOS) and reliable internet.
    • Basic computer skills; no prior project management experience required.
    • Google or Microsoft 365 account (Docs/Sheets/Drive or Word/Excel/OneDrive).
    • Free account in a PM tool (Trello, Asana, or Notion).
Optional: MS Project or ClickUp if available.
    • Recommended: Bring a real project idea from your organization (especially in culture/cultural heritage) to use as your capstone.

Course Description

This practical program equips participants to initiate, plan, execute, and evaluate projects—especially within culture and cultural heritage contexts. You’ll turn a real idea into a complete project plan, build a realistic budget, map stakeholders, define scope and timelines, manage risks, and set up documentation and evaluation processes. The course blends short theory bursts with hands-on templates and peer feedback so you leave with a plan you can present and implement immediately.

Course Outcomes

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Formulate a clear, practicable project idea using problem/goal trees and a basic logic model.

  • Present a concise business case and project charter (purpose, benefits, scope, assumptions, constraints).

  • Prepare a realistic economic plan and budget (cost breakdown, cash flow, funding sources, basic procurement).

  • Plan scope, deliverables, and milestones with a WBS, timeline/Gantt, and resource plan.

  • Map stakeholders and create a communication plan tailored to funders, partners, and community audiences.

  • Assess risks and issues with a risk register and response strategies.

  • Set up M&E (indicators, baselines, data collection, learning & evaluation plan) and documentation standards.

  • Execute & control using lightweight tools (Kanban, status reports, change log) and meeting cadences.

  • Close & evaluate the project with lessons learned and impact reporting.

  • Review critically: give and receive structured peer feedback on project plans.

  • Deliver a complete project plan pack (charter, scope, schedule, budget, RACI, risk register, M&E framework).
